I’ve written before about the importance of getting the basics for your sissification right.
I have seen some really terrible sissies. I mean, bless them, their hearts are in the right place, but wow do they lack the skills. For the most part, the ones that are just terrible at it are either fellas who lost a bet and are half-assing it, or they’ve only just now mustered the bravery to go out in public. Depending on venue, I can guess which is which… if it’s a gay bar and they look scared, it’s their first time out dressed. If it’s a cowboy bar and all their friends hoot and holler when the see them, it was a bet.
For those of you who’d love to get dressed and go out, but know that you’re lacking the skill to pull off dressing en femme convincingly, I have a few tips.
Let’s start with your nails, because it’s a quick, simple, easy little thing for you to do that both lasts and is easily reversed. You can go to a salon, of course. But if this is your first time trying to get all pretty, and you’re nervous, a salon can be incredibly intimidating. If you’re going to the salon, call ahead and make an appointment. Tell the person on the phone that you’re going to want color, and so could they give you someone who will be ok with that (odds are they’ll all be ok with you wanting some pretty color, but it can be a comfort to know going in that the person you’ll be working with is aware and ok with your biological gender.) Have clean hands, an idea of what sort of color you might want, and tell all your shame to go sit in the corner.
When you go to the salon, you’ll discover that the whole place smells of nail polish. It’ll be bright and cool inside, with a rack of nail polish color near the front. Check in for your appointment, and then go pick out the color you want. Grab it from the rack, sit and wait to be called. They’ll file your nails into a good shape, clean up the cuticles (which can be a bit painful if they push them back too much, just tell them to be gentle), and then, paint! You’ll sit with your hands in a UV dryer for a bit, to set the polish, then go pay up front. Remember to bring cash and tip the person who did your nails. A twenty percent tip is a good starting point.
Next week I’ll go over how to do you own nails!
If you want to prepare for next week’s lesson, you’ll need clear polish suitable for base and top coat, color polish, and white glue. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you what everything’s for!
Ms. Harper this is AWESOME!
This really resonated with me! I am in desperate need of a mani/pedi appointment! I have been digging in the back yard for a 13×35 foot patio. My nails are a wreck. I DO agree with everything you said about going to a salon. Cash is SO important…and PAY before the nails are done. That’s my tip. No need to muss up those nails reaching for cash or a card! Great tips here!
