Whore School Tarot Tradition
If you’ve listened to my adult sex education podcast Whore School, you know I have a Whore School Halloween Tradition of my own: I read Tarot on the Sunday closest to Halloween! This year, I also gave a little history lesson about Tarot, where it came from, and about the specific deck I was using. To sum up, in short, Tarot is a form of divination by cards, using a specific deck that has 78 cards, 56 Minor Arcana (numbered and court cards) and 22 Major Arcana. It was first laid popularized as a divination practice in the 1780’s with the Tarot of Marseille, but later occultist A.E. Waite created the symbolism and meanings that are still used today, and the artwork we recognize best was created by Pamela Colman Smith, in 1909. All hail the Rider-Waite-Smith deck!
