There are a lot of tools in my kit, but by far one of the most versatile is sensual Tantra.
I’ve written about Tantra before, but it bears a repeat: while you may think of Tantra and imagine Sting and his epic six-hour fucking marathons, the real practice is very different. In the West, Tantra is all about dirty kinky fucking and wild sex, and in the East, Tantra is a set of practices designed to reduce personal suffering and bring about enlightenment. For myself, Tantra is both! Why not reduce your suffering and seek enlightenment along with wild pleasure and ecstatic bliss? Why not both? With sensual Tantra, you can have your cake and fuck it too.
The heart of modern sensual Tantra is the breath.
When you’re in a session with me, if we go deep enough into an altered state of consciousness and get you close to sub-space, you will inevitably hear me reminding you to breathe. I’ll advise you to change the rate and depth of your breath, to breathe in a pattern, to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth… that is all sensual Tantra tricks! In fact, that’s at the heart of a lot of the ecstatic traditions from multiple cultures, but I’m pulling directly from Tantra when I advise you to focus on your breath. Without your breath, you are nothing: breath leads to life, the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your lungs leads to your vitality, and the rate and rhythm of your breath provides direct feedback to your brain chemistry.
I can even prove to you right here and now that breath is the heart of sensual Tantra and that it can change your brain chemistry. Sit up nice and straight, with your spine in a neutral position. Feet flat on the floor, hands relaxed, and breathe. In through the nose for a count of four, hold for five counts, and then breathe out for a seven count. Do this five times. Now take note of your relaxation, your stress, how you hold your muscles, and your mood.
Sensual Tantra has a lot to offer to us all.
I’d suggest that if you’re interested in getting started learning about Tantra and about sensual Tantra in particular, that you arrange a session with me. Having a guide along the path is incredibly helpful! But, if you want to travel alone, you can, and that’s part of the beauty of Tantra! You can absolutely do solo sensual Tantra, or Tantric masturbation, if you choose. For a simple to understand entry level text on Zen meditation (which is the doorway to Tantra for most westerners) try “Zen Mind Beginner’s Mind” by Shunryu Suzuki. Sensual Tantra is an amazing practice that can lead to fantastic sex, and also relaxation, less stress, and a happier mindset. Try it, you may like it!
