One of the most interesting and misunderstood types of guided masturbation is the erotic meditation.
Most of the time, when someone comes to me and says they want to experience erotic meditation, what they mean is they want a trippy, dreamy, laid back guided masturbation session with some Zen-ish embellishments on top. What ~I~ say when I talk about erotic meditation is rather different. Please keep in mind that I practice Buddhism and Tantra, so I’m not coming at these practices from the point of view of a dabbler or dilletante, but of a Practitioner who’s spent over a decade working on and with these energies.
Erotic meditation and the practice of Tantra is not exactly all about the sexual.
It’s in there, don’t get me wrong. But, that’s not the be all and end all of Tantra. A lot of people hear “Tantra” and start thinking about Sting’s six hour erection and love-making sessions, and then they get caught in that idea and miss what Tantra can really do. Yes, you too can court permanent damage to your penis with Tantra, but you could also discover a deeper relationship with yourself and your loved ones, and with the world at large. You could even wind up experiencing a moment of Nirvana that changes your experienced life forever.
Tantra and erotic mediation is about life and your experience of it.
Let’s use a more archaic definition of ‘erotic’ for a moment. Audre Lorde’s essay on The Erotic is well worth the read, and can be encapsulated thus: “It is an inspiring sense of fulfillment, pleasure and completion, that can infiltrate every area of life, including the bedroom, allowing one to live a life of wholeness and profound satisfaction.” That sense of bodily physical erotic energy is what Tantra seeks to evoke.
“This Tantric vision of being is not an escape from what we actually are; at the kitchen sink; in the office; on the factory floor. The raw texture of whatever reality it is that we live every day has to be our practice.” ~ Spectrum of Ecstasy
Erotic meditation is about the body. It’s about your bones and your blood, your skin and your experience in your body, no matter what you’re doing with your body! Whether you’re sitting at a desk working on a report, reading a book of poetry, cooking dinner, or finding a willing body to fuck tonight, you can be in an erotic meditation throughout.
There is a lot of positive gain to be found in the practice of Tantra, and in erotic meditation.
Being more in touch with your body can help you feel more grounded, sane, and can help reduce stress. Feeling your mind and your body working together to create your experience, especially with the help of an experienced guide, can be revelatory. I highly encourage everyone to try meditation! I will warn you, our Western minds have trouble in the beginning, which is why gurus, guides, and meditation leaders are common and recommended for first time meditators. First time practitioners of Tantra especially need to seek out a guide, as the experience can be overwhelming without guidance!

We call it intangibleBut here…we spin through it

Dearest Harper,Your point about getting proper instruction in breathing and tantra is vital.Kundalini energy can be overwelming, and once you arouse the serpent in your sexual center, there is no going back. This energy has a way of exascerbating physical and emotional weakness.Best to get your house in order before practicing.
Like any of the spiritual and altered states of consciousness training practices, Tantra can be life altering!
