The Trans Day of Visibility falls on March 31!

While the Day of Remembrance is in October, and honors those lost during the year, the Day of Visibility aims to raise awareness of trans issues and create support for trans folks. For the latest episode of Whore School, I covered the basic vocabulary around trans and gender non-binary issues, and helped define and describe the differences between people who are intersex, trans, and crossdressers. You can listen anytime, on demand!

One really important point to take away from both the show and the Trans Day of Visibility:

It’s perfectly ok to be confused about your own gender identity! Questions of identity are complex and hard to nail down, and aren’t helped by the shifting nature of our own selves. We change over time, and so our identity also shifts. For the Trans Day of Visibility, I want you to take it as gospel that you’re allowed, and even encouraged, to explore your gender identity. Do so gleefully, playfully, and with a happy heart. Exploring gender and playing with your presentation does not make you weird or freakish, and being able to say that you know exactly what you are, or know a little about what you are, helps those who are just starting out, or who may feel uncomfortable with their own gender and identity. Be open about your exploration, and call it what it is, because doing so normalizes the journey and helps people in their own gender journeys.
